Stadium Chatter β€” How It Works

Stadium Chatter is a venue-contextual chat feature that becomes available after a user checks in to a venue. Key safety design decisions:

  • Terms gate before login: Users must agree to WeatherMVP's Terms of Use and Community Guidelines before they can register or log in. The gate appears on every fresh install.
  • GPS check-in required: Users must physically check in to a venue to participate. This limits anonymous spam from remote users.
  • Time-limited sessions: Sessions expire after a set window. Users cannot rejoin after exiting for the day, limiting abuse loops.
  • Rate limiting: Messages are limited per user per minute to prevent flooding.
  • Report Message: Every message from another user has a visible "Report Message" button. When a user reports a message, it is immediately hidden from their feed and a report is sent to WeatherMVP moderation for review.
  • Block User: Every message from another user has a visible "Block User" button. When a user blocks another user, all of that user's messages are instantly removed from the blocker's feed, and future messages from the blocked user remain hidden. Blocking also creates a moderation report so WeatherMVP Safety is notified of the inappropriate content.
  • Content filtering: WeatherMVP filters objectionable content both client-side and server-side. Messages containing profanity, slurs, hate speech, threats, harassment, spam, false emergency terms, or private personal information are blocked before they are published to the visible feed. When a message is filtered, the user sees a clear message: β€œThis message could not be posted because it may violate WeatherMVP’s Community Guidelines.” Filtered content is logged in the moderation queue for review.
  • Hidden content: Messages that are hidden, deleted, flagged, or from a blocked user are not shown to normal users. Only admins can see flagged content in the moderation queue.
  • Auto-flag: Messages with 3+ reports are automatically elevated for priority moderation.
  • Moderation queue: All reports, blocks, and filtered content appear in the admin moderation queue with the reason, source action (report, block, or content_filter), and status for review.
  • 24-hour moderation: WeatherMVP reviews objectionable content reports within 24 hours. Content that violates the Community Guidelines may be removed, and the user who provided the offending content may be ejected from Stadium Chatter or suspended from community features.

Under-13 Protection

Users under 13 cannot create accounts and cannot access Stadium Chatter or other UGC features. This is enforced during onboarding. See our Children's Privacy Policy for details.

Community Standards

All users must follow our Community Guidelines. Violations may result in content removal, feature suspension, or account termination.

Our Moderation Policy describes how reports are handled, how content is reviewed, and our response timeframes.
